One day in 2010, LaManda Joy was at her local butcher shop in Chicago, waiting for a chicken, when she noticed an old photo of World War II Victory Gardens. A few days later it hit her. The garden in the photo sat on the same empty lot on Peterson Avenue she'd been driving past for months.
