Before

Purchase the official NPR deck or make your own. Thirty cards is plenty, split into three suits: memories, insights, and beliefs.

If you are making your own deck, write questions that assume a whole life. Aim at the specific and the ordinary: a belief you let go of, a place that shaped you as much as a person did, a lesson you keep having to learn. Stay away from politics.

Keep the event small, max 8-12 folks. Set it up in Plurality and invite them directly. Be explicit that anything said during the night stays there.

During

Run three rounds, one per suit, and let each person draw sight unseen. Everyone answers the card they drew, not the card they wish they'd drawn. That's the game.

Go first yourself, and answer something real. Protect the pass. Anyone can decline a card and draw again, no explanation owed, and you say it out loud again the first time someone hesitates. Paradoxically, a room that's genuinely allowed to pass goes deeper than one that isn't.

After

Take a photo of the deck and the table, not of people mid-answer, and invite folks to record any other Moments.

Then hand the deck to someone else to host next month.
