The Neighbor's Table

In 2012, Sarah Harmeyer knew almost none of her neighbors in Dallas, TX. She'd moved there for a job with St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and spent her days planning fundraising dinners for strangers. “I am a people-gatherer, and I love sharing in relationships with people,” she says. So on a whim, she asked her dad, Lee, a retired oilman she lovingly calls a “piddler,” to build her a table that could seat 20. He'd never built a table. He said yes.
